    What is APPEAL?
APPEAL is an acronym for the Atlanta Philanthropic Program for Education and Leadership Foundation, Inc.

    When was APPEAL formed?
APPEAL began as an idea among the members of the Iota Zeta Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority in 2001. Initially named the IZS Philanthropy Program, the chapter soon decided to establish an entity, separate and not directly related to the chapter or to Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., through which it could serve the metropolitan Atlanta community. In 2005, the APPEAL Foundation was chartered as a non-profit organization in the State of Georgia. In 2006, it was recognized by the Internal Revenue Service, under code 501(c)3.

    What is APPEAL’s mission?
The APPEAL Foundation is dedicated to the empowerment and education of women and children by providing educational, social, and leadership development in the form of scholarships, grants, tutoring, workshops, and volunteerism.

    What does APPEAL do?
Since APPEAL is dedicated to the empowerment of women and children, the Foundation’s programs primarily serve these groups. APPEAL is still in its infancy, so the full scope of programs and services will be introduced in phases.

We are happy to announce the establishment of our Scholarship Fund. Through the APPEAL Foundation Scholarship Fund, deserving high school seniors in the metropolitan Atlanta area are recognized for academic excellence.

Future APPEAL initiatives will include grants and workshops.

    Who can benefit from APPEAL?
Anyone who resides within metropolitan Atlanta can benefit from APPEAL’s services. However, since the foundation is dedicated to the empowerment of women and children, special consideration is given to those groups.

How can I make donations to APPEAL?
Contributions to the APPEAL Foundation may be made at any time, and can be sent to the Foundation’s address at: PO Box 451102, Atlanta, GA 31145. Notices of donation can be sent, upon request, for tax purposes.

How can I get involved with APPEAL?
APPEAL gladly welcomes any donations to help us facilitate our programs and services. In addition, we will be conducting several events during the year that may require assistance in other areas. Please visit this page often to see what we’re doing and how you may help us.

How can I apply for an APPEAL scholarship?
The APPEAL Foundation Scholarship Fund was created to provide financial support to aspiring scholars within the metropolitan Atlanta community.

Academic scholarships are currently awarded to graduating seniors who attend school within DeKalb and Gwinnett counties. The program will soon be expanded to other counties.

Application packets are sent to all DeKalb and Gwinnett high schools each fall, and are also made available via this Web site.

    How may I contact APPEAL?
You may reach the APPEAL Foundation via mail at PO Box 451102, Atlanta, GA 31145.
